Malaysian bilyonaryo Vincent Tan committed to build 5,000 homes for less fortunate Filipinos in partnership with local poverty reduction movement, Gawad Kalinga (GK) Community Development Foundation.

?The rich became rich because a lot of poor people supported their businesses,? Inquirer quoted Tan during the 4th Global Social Business Summit held recently at the GK Enchanted Farm in Angat, Bulacan.

In 2012, that business tycoon who founded the Berjaya Group of companies, donated P100 million to GK as part of his P300-million pledge for the construction of 3,000 homes for calamity-stricken Filipinos.

This set off the partnership between Berjaya, through Berjaya Philippines Inc., and GK.

Berjaya is a vast group of businesses that engages in property, development and investment. Tan also has ownership in gambling, telecoms, food and retail businesses.
