Powering e-mobility: MVP Group tollroads will soon offer electric vehicle charging

A wholly owned unit of Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. will install recharging stations along its expressways to help boost electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in the country.

MPT Mobility Inc. has set a target to set up charging stations along the North Luzon Expressway, Cavitex and the Cavite-Laguna Expressway by next year.

“This technology is still something new. In fact, only a few investors are offering electric charging in the Philippines. That’s why there rare no motorists buying electric cars but we will pave the way in installing all of these electric charging stations at least one in our expressways,” said Mark Richmund De Leon, MPT Mobility VP for Business Development.

De Leon also said EV charging stations would also be deployed in all parking lots managed by MPT Mobility subsidiary Dibz.

DIbz is a smart parking services group that offers pre-booked parking, valet services, parking management and Dibz Shop.

According to government data, there were 12,965 registered EVs last year, 8.5 percent higher than the 11,950 recorded in 2019.

The Department of Trade and Industry sees the number of EVs rising to 300,000 by 2030.
