JAZA asks Lance to set record straight on giant snake in Robinson’s; Ayala boss admits snooping but not shopping in Gokongwei’s malls

Bilyonaryos Jaime Augusto Zobel de Ayala and Lance Gokongwei let it all hang out when they recently sat down for a refreshing and entertaining conversation posted on social media.

Gokongwei was Zobel‘s guest in the fourth episode of the BPI’s chairman’s engaging talk show “After Six.”

The highlight of their conversation is the “True or False” segment where the two popular business leaders addressed hed on rumors about each other and their businesses.

The two business titans first addressed speculation on how much they get away with freebies from their respective companies.

Gokongwei admits he gets free tickets every time he rides Cebu Pacific airline for business meetings but he pays for personal travel.

Zobel asks if he mixes business and personal travel and “pretend one is another” to which Gokognesi sheepishly replied,” I tried to get away with once but I got caught.”

For his part, Zobel said he pays all his phone bills and he only gets a for free even if he is chairman of Globe Telecom.

On the mall business, Gokongwei confirmed that he visits Robinsons Malls incognito but the staff “indulge me and they pretend they don’t recognize me.”

The Ayala Land vice chairman admitted that he also takes a peek inside Robinsons Malls. “I don’t think I’ve gone shopping there but it’s always nice to go look at what people are doing. What new ideas they have,” Zobel said.

Zobel struggled to keep a straight face when he asked Gokongwei to give the low down on the decades-old urban legend of “a real Robinsons’ snake in the bodega of the mall.”

When Gokongwei replied that it was a “definite falsehood”, Zobel laughed when he asked: “Are you sure about that, Lance? Is there a snake slithering there?”

“If there would have been a snake, my sister Robina would have caught it and converted it into a handbag that she sold in Robinsons,” said a chuckling Gokongwei.
