Ain’t our property: SM Group denies hand in violent demolition of Cavite village

The Sy-blings have denied any involvement in the violent dispersal of residents of a fishing village in Maragondon, Cavite, which is reportedly being cleared to make way for an exclusive resort.

In a statement Friday (January 14), the SM Group denied owning the property that residents were supposedly asked to vacate.

“SM Investments Corporation (SMIC) reiterates that it has never had any ownership of nor is it in any acquisition talks with the subject property in Barangay Patungan, Maragondon, Cavite,” the company said.

“The area of the demolition incident that happened last January 13, 2022 is not a property of SM,” it added.

The militant group Pamalakaya tagged the Manila Southcoast Development Corp., a property firm reportedly owned by the late bilyonaryo Henry Sy Sr., as the mastermind of the demolition, which resulted in a violent clash between residents and policemen.
