Jordan Prieto Valdes took to Instagram to share a photo of the Siargao sunrise she fell in love with.
In the photo was Tatay, a local who made Siargao feel like home to Jordan.
“Finally got to surf with tatay and some friends yesterday and it felt sooo good to ride good waves and just be in the ocean again. Despite looking towards the shoreline and seeing way less coconut trees than before, the happiness we all shared in the water was a great reminder of why I chose to stay on this island after the storm destroyed everything.
The community here has always been so welcoming and warm, and provided a healing space for me to grow past the pain of my parents’ separation last year. so many shared sunrises, laughs, wipeouts, meals, hugs, and surfs. How could I abandon this island and its people when they needed help the most? In many ways I feel that siargao helped rebuild my heart, so I want to be able to do that for people here :),” Jordan shared.
