Liza Araneta Marcos may not be in the spotlight as much as her husband, presidential aspirant Ferdinand Marcos Jr, but she’s believed to be the one calling the shots in his bid to return to Malacañang.
Investment banker and blogger Leo Alejandrino credited Liza’s efforts for her husband’s strong showing in voter preference surveys, saying in his Heneral Lunacy blog that her “well run organization” of Marcos’ campaign has made the former senator the frontrunner in the presidential race.
“Liza is the ideal politician’s wife: Soft spoken, discreet, dedicated, smart, discerning, tough, organized, dogged, ambitious – she could well want it even more than her husband – and the laser instinct to get it done. She seemingly loves the power game even if she may deny it,” he added.
Liza’s law firm, M & Associates, has been handling all cases against Bongbong before the Commission on Elections, although she is not directly representing her husband in pleadings and hearings.
Should Marcos win the race, Alejandrino expects a bigger role for Liza in running the country’s affairs.
“Malacanang will be a collective with Liza and Imee, I imagine, running many of the plays, vetting the key appointments and ensuring everybody sticks to their lane,” he added.
