An increasing number of South Koreans are flying to the Philippines to soak in the sun and marvel at its countless pristine beaches.
Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat named South Korea as one of the top three sources of foreign arrivals in the country over the past three months.
“We received about 313,050 international arrivals – number one ay galing sa US, number two sa Canada at ngayon number three na ang Korea. So at least sunud-sunod na, and for the Koreans and Japanese [they] are already coming,” she said in a government briefing.
The number of foreign arrivals were recorded from February 10 to April 25, 2022.
While Puyat said the Philippines has a long way to go before reaching its pre-pandemic figure of 8.26 million foreign tourist arrivals, she’s thrilled to see “revenge travel” at play after two years of COVID-19 lockdowns.
So ngayon talagang they are travelling,” she said.
