Meralco PowerGen Corp. (MGen) thru its clean energy unit expects to have 240 megawatts of renewable energy projects by early 2023.

Azurin said three projects are already under construction. These include the 75 MW solar project in Baras, Rizal, 68 MW solar faciity in Ilocos Norte and 45 MW solar project in Cordon, Isabela.

“These are about 190 MW in addition to our existing Bulacansol which is already operating since May of 2021,” he said.

The 50 MW BulacanSol is located in San Miguel, Bulacan.

Azurin said they are also looking at putting up a large-scale wind farm as well as other storage energy projects in the coming years.

“The power generation group continues to ramp up its investment in the RE sector with a target of 1,500 MW in the next seven years,” Azurin said.

He said MGen is also “very interested in offshore wind” and will most likely tap foreign investors.
