President Rodrigo Duterte led the opening of an iconic expressway that connects the island of Cordova and Mactan to the Cebu mainland, Metro Pacific Investment Corp.’s first huge infrastructure project in the Visayas.
Duterte thanked MPIC chairman and president Manuel V. Pangilinan and the local government units of Cebu City for the the completion of the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway, which is intended to ease congestion in the country’s second busiest urban center.
“Your support for this Administration’s goal to boost regional development, provide a comfortable life for every Filipino and realize our vision of a strongly connected nation is truly commendable, while your hard work and dedication to ensure the completion of this monumental task are equally noteworthy,” Duterte said.
“This state-of-the-art infrastructure will provide a solution to the perennial traffic issues of Metro Cebu. I am hopeful that this shall likewise result into an increase in economic productivity in the province and the rest of the Visayas through a safer, faster and more convenient means of transporting goods as well as people,” he added.
Apart from Pangilinan, also present during the opening ceremony were MPIC board member Joey Lim, Maynilad president and CEO Mon Fernandez, MPIC managing director for Government Relations and Public Affairs, D.M. Consunji president Jorge Consunji and PLDT first vice president and group communications head Cathy Yang.
