Ed Saavedra’s Megawide, Japanese partners bag Metro Manila subway contract

Megawide Construction Corp. and its Japanese partners have won a contract to construct two stations of the Metro Manila Subway project.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Megawide said it formally received last May 2 the notice of award from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Contract Package 104.

The contract involves the construction of two underground stations (Ortigas North and Ortigas South) as well as tunnels of the Japan-funded Metro Manila Subway project.

Megawide is joined by partners Tokyu Construction Co. Ltd. and Tobishima Corp. under the so-called Tokyu-Tobishima-Megawide joint venture.

The country’s first ever underground railway system is a 33-kilometer subway stretching from Valenzuela in the north to NAIA Terminal Terminal 3 and FTI in the south.
