PNR Lucena-San Pablo line to reopen before June 30

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) plans to reopen the Philippine National Railways (PNR) Lucena-San Pablo line before the end of next month.

The DOTr said its railway sector woukd continue to revive and develop the PNR Lucena-San Pablo line in the final days of the Duterte administration.

It is set to reopen to serve passengers before the current administration steps down in June, the agency said.

The opening of the PNR Lucena-San Pablo line is expected to help flourish the economic corridors of the provinces of Laguna, Quezon, and their nearby areas, according to the DOTr.

The line will be essential in restoring the PNR Bicol Express, which will link Metro Manila and the provinces in Southern Luzon, including Laguna, Quezon, Camarines Sur and Sorsogon.

Through the PNR Lucena-San Pablo commuter line, the travel time between San Pablo to Lucena will only take one hour and 30 minutes.

The commuter line ceased operation in October 2013 after the collapse of an abutment.

It is a 44-kilometer inter-provincial commuter railway which was part of the commuter train service to Bicol with stations and flag stops for daily commuters or short travels.
