Ultra bilyonaryo Ramon S. Ang will have a big hole to fill in San Miguel Corp.’s tollway business.
A Babbler said presumptive president Bongbong Marcos has chosen SMC Tollways president and CEO Manuel “Manny” M. Bonoan to take over the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
The Babbler said the next administration’s Cabinet screening committee, led by investment banker and former congressman Anton Lagdameo, has endorsed Bonoan because of his experience, which includes a stint in DPWH.
Bonoan started as assistant secretary under the Ramos administration, undersecretary under the Estrada administration, and promoted to undersecretary in the Arroyo administration
SMC Tollways owns and operates the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX), Skyway, Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway (TPLEX), Ninoy Aquino International Airport Expressway (NAIAX), and Southern Tagalog Arterial Road (STAR).
Marcos had hinted of bringing back the “golden age of infrastructure” during the reign of his father who went on a building spree from 1965 to 1986 with the construction of iconic buildings (such as the Cultural Center of the Philippines) and expressways (NLEX started in the 1960s while SLEX started in 1976).
