The Bureau of Internal Revenue has removed Regional Director (South- National Capital Region) Eduardo L. Pagulayan from his post just weeks into his retirement.
In an order issued on June 1, BIR Commissioner has assigned Pagulayan, who is set to retire by the end of this month, as technical assistant under his office.
Pagulayan was placed on floating status just three weeks after he and Deputy Commissioner Arnel Guballa issued the controversial media advisory announcing the closure of Megaworld of ultra bilyonaryo Andrew Tan.
The BIR aborted the media briefing on May 18 after Tan, who insisted that Megaworld should be subject to audit by BIR Large Taxpayers Unit and not by Pagulayan’s task force, agreed to open its book to special audit.
Finance Secretary Sonny Dominguez and Dulay, however, immediately suspended the authority of task forces to conduct special audits that usurped the jurisdiction of other BIR division.
Pagulayan ordered the tax audit because the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) and Megaworld failed to register its joint venture project in Bonifacio Global City.
Bilyonaryo.com reported that Ayala Land and Federal Land were also subjected to special audit by Pagulayan but only Megaworld complained about the harassment.
