High-priced defect: Toyota PH recalls Land Cruiser, Lexus 2022 models due malfunctioning brake software

Toyota Motor Philippines chaired by bilyonaryo Alfred Ty has ordered a recall of the latest models of two of its most-expensive vehicles in its stable.

Based on an advisory by the Department of Trade and Industry, Toyota has recalled 616 units of the latest model of its Land Cruiser 300 (LC300) and 11 units of the Lexus 600 (LX600) due to defects in their brake actuator software.

The recall covers units of the LC300, which has a base price of P5.2 million, produced from 7 July 2021 to 1 April 2022; and LX600 units, which has a base price of P10.258 million, manufactured from 31 December 20221 to 12 March 2022.

TMP first vice president Berardino Arevalo said it would “reprogram” the brake software at no cost to customers.

This is the second batch of Toyota models that the automotive giant had to recall due to problematic braking issues.

Last April, Toyota recalled hybrid models of the RAV4 (92 units) Lexus NX (40) models.
