SOS: Telcos, NTC regional directors urged to step up efforts against fake job text scams

The National Telecommunications Commission has directed Smart Communications, Globe Telecoms and DITO Telecommunity to further step up their efforts against purveyors of the job scam.

Fake job text messages continue to proliferate and even intensify in the past month.

In a memorandum issued June 9, the NTC directed the three telcos to text blast their subscribers from June 11 to June 17 and to accelerate the process of blocking SIM cards which are being used to perpetrate these fraudulent activities.

The NTC has also instructed its regional directors and officers-in-charge to appear once again before local radio and television stations to warn the public against the continuing text scams.

Last month, the NTC has already directed telcos to text blast their subscribers from May 28 to June 4.
